think the point here is for that the obama administration, it is to cooperate with putin. there are four-party counterterrorism talks that happen between our intelligence service, their intelligence service, same with the fbi and sfb. that exchange at the tactical level is going to go on. politically, the administration is going to be careful they don't get caught in a tidal wave. >> let me go to richard engel for another thought. >> the worry is what happens next. look at the al qaeda web forums all day, they are celebrating what is going on in boston. they are talking about how much this is costing the city of boston, how americans are, quote, living in fear, how the city is under siege. they are absolutely thrilled by the images that have been on american televisions today. and there is a concern that this could lead to a copycat. someone who could be self-inspired and with a very small amount of expertise and small amount of money can have a very big impact. >> are they claiming any role? or any solidarity with the action or simply in the result? >> solidarity, certainly. there's bee
if the older brother had terror training during a trip overseas last year. meanwhile, president obama has summoned his entire national security team to the white house and is tracking developments from the situation room. as we wait for this press conference, let's go live to nbc's michael isikoff reporting from the scene in watertown where he's been all day. michael, what's the status of the manhunt now and what can you tell us about these homemade bombs that have been recovered? >> reporter: well first of all, we expect to get the briefing of the status any moment now and there are indications that at least some of the information that was given out by police earlier today about the timeline events is going to be revised and we're going to be learning that there may have been some inaccurate information, at least about the origins of this. but we're waiting to hear that and we'll get -- we should get confirmation shortly. but what we have been told -- >> we're seeing some people getting out of the cars now, michael. so we may be near the press conference time. but go ahead. >> right. ri
is the fbi looking at right now? what's most important from your standpoint? >> well, obama met with his security advisers today, and their biggest concern is that it is a foreign threat, that it's not too lone wolfs in the united states that took this under their own, just decided to do it themselves. so what the fbi will be looking at is phone records, e-mail records. they'll be looking at any communications, travel records that had to do with these guys going back and possibly training at a camp in northern africa. the most important thing is the communication records, if they've made phone calls, connecting them to other people that may have been involved in encouraging this act or training them to do this particular act, that's what the fbi's going to be looking for going forward. >> and we don't have anymore information on that right now. we know, though, that the older brother, who is dead, did leave the country for six months. he's been living in america since 2007, but left for six months, and investigators are trying to zero in on whether or not he got terrorism training. are y
, that they now have a president who answers to moscow, that vladimir putin spoke to president obama tonight. he has been telling the u.s., you don't understand, this chechen situation, don't tell me about human rights. i need to crack down on these people. >> what do you think the president came back with? >> i think the president -- you have the national security adviser in moscow this week talking to russia about syria and what we want from them. what we want is the intelligence on this family. we want to know about the chechens. we want to know, was this connected to politics or chechen terror. >> or putin has claimed before, perhaps accurately, a connection to al qaeda? >> exactly. let's face it. these could be two kids who have their own aspirational jihadism who have very different personal anger and are dealing with something that isn't chechen. >> we are not pro or anti-chechen. we are not involved. >> this would be the first time a chechen, if this were chechen terrorism, we saw what happened in 2010 when they hit the subways in 2002 with the theater. >> but they have been anti-russian
